UTA provides sanitary containers for #LogistikHilft industry initiative

  • Joint BMVI, BGL, LAG, Fraunhofer IML and DocStop initiative
  • Official container inauguration with high-ranking guests on Friday, July 31, near Berlin
  • UTA supports measures in other countries as part of the Edenred Group “More than Ever” relief plan

Kleinostheim/Ladbergen/Berlin, Germany – UTA, a leading provider of fuel and service cards in Europe, is supporting the #LogistikHilft initiative and – together with the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), the Federal Association for Freight Transport Logistics and Disposal (BGL), the KRAVAG insurance company with its locking system app, DocStop, and other partners – is providing sanitary containers to improve hygienic conditions for truck drivers during the coronavirus pandemic.

Within the framework of the initiative, containers equipped with showers will be set up at strategically important locations across Germany. One container has now been opened at Ludwigsfelde on the A10 near Berlin, at an official ceremony. Attendees included Guido Beermann, Brandenburg's Minister for Infrastructure and State Planning; Antje Janßen, Political Advisor of the BGL Representative Office Berlin; Werner Bicker, Board Member of DocStop e.V.; Eberhard Tief, Director of the Regional Transport Industry Association of Berlin and Brandenburg (LBBV e.V.); and Carsten Bettermann, CEO of UTA.

Werner Bicker, Board Member of DocStop e.V., says: “The starting point of #LogistikHilft is the enormous challenge posed by the coronavirus pandemic. Right now, many truck drivers depend on seamless access to sanitary facilities, showers and toilets. Enabling such facilities across the board – and guaranteeing appropriate working conditions for truck drivers – is the focus of this #LogistikHilft project.”

DocStop – in partnership with UTA – had previously arranged free access to sanitary facilities for professional drivers at numerous contact points near German motorways as part of its SaniStop campaign. Now, with the installation of sanitary containers as part of #LogistikHilft, its support is being significantly expanded.

Carsten Bettermann, CEO of UTA, says: “Professional drivers are keeping supply chains going in these difficult times, but the group is being hard hit by the effects of coronavirus measures. Following our participation in the SaniStop campaign for truck drivers, we’re now pleased to support the larger-scale #LogistikHilft initiative for the benefit of drivers in the Corona crisis as part of the Edenred Group ‘More than Ever’ relief plan. As a company operating throughout Europe, we’re also supporting professional drivers in other countries as part of the Edenred Group initiative."

We Care for You - UTA enacts Europe-wide coronavirus relief measures

Professional drivers received further support through UTA’s We Care for You initiative in Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, France and Poland. There, UTA offers protective masks, disinfectant, free meals and shower facilities in cooperation with motorway service stations and transport associations to make it easier for drivers to work during the pandemic. We Care for You is UTA’s contribution to Edenred Group’s More than Ever relief plan.

Championing employees in transport and logistics

#LogistikHilft is a joint initiative of the BMVI, the BGL, the Logistics Alliance Germany (LAG), the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) and the non-profit association DocStop. Sponsored by the Federal Government Coordinator for Freight Transport and Logistics, Parliamentary State Secretary Steffen Bilger and Federal Minister Andreas Scheuer, the initiative is designed to support workers within the transportation and logistics sectors, thereby ensuring continuity of supply to society, and to support the economy. A key pillar of the initiative is fair and appropriate working conditions for truck drivers.

#LogistikHilft appeals for more support

#LogistikHilft was conceived as an open platform for all providers and customers of transport and logistics services, which on the one hand promotes existing aid campaigns and on the other hand initiates new campaigns. #LogistikHilft participants call all players from trade, industry, road freight transport, forwarding agents, shipping companies, air freight carriers, rail transport companies, sea and inland ports, CT transshipment facilities, CEP service providers, parking lot operators, rest and garage operators, petrol station operators and other interested companies and associations to join the initiative in order to support the smooth functioning of logistics and supply chains.
