Croatian tolls
Travel through Croatia with ease with UTA Edenred
Croatian tolls
Regardless if you're travelling in a passenger car or an HGV, in Croatia - just as in Slovenia or Austria - all vehicles are required to pay tolls. The amount of the toll depends on the kilometres driven and the respective vehicle category.
The categorisation of vehicles (I-IV) for Croatian tolls is based on:
-
Vehicle weight
-
Number of axles
-
Vehicle height
-
Use of trailers
While Austrian motorways are united under ASFINAG, Croatian motorways are maintained by three different toll operators: HRVATSKE AUTOCESTE d.o.o. (HAC), BINA Istra and Autocesta Zagreb-Macelj (AZM). The formerly independent operator Autocesta Rijeka-Zagreb d.d (ARZ) is now part of the HAC motorway company.
For every toll route in the country, a distinction is made between closed and open systems. Further information is below.

How tolls are collected
In Croatia, there are no video tolls or vignettes for cars as in Austria or Slovenia.
Instead, two systems are used to collect tolls on motorways:
The toll can be paid in cash or with a credit card at the toll station.
For ENC OBU users, there are separate lanes at the toll stations on the motorway, both with the open and closed systems.
Determining fees or electronic payment takes place automatically, without the need for a toll ticket.
