FAQ - Frequently asked questions about electric cars and electric truck for EV charging cards

Below are common questions about UTA eCharge charging cards.

How does the UTA charging card work?

The UTA fuel and charging eCard features a magnetic strip on the back that enables it to be used for fuel transactions. The card is inserted into a terminal at the fuel station. For security reasons, it may be necessary to enter a PIN. For charging, the card features an RFID chip that can be used to start and stop charging sessions at public and suitably-equipped private charging stations. All fuelling and charging transactions are then billed to your company.

Can I charge an electric vehicle or electric truck without a charging card?

Yes, that is possible. Simply download the free eCharge App via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. 

Charging costs: How much does charging via app or charging card cost?

With UTA eCharge, you pay a basic monthly fee and benefit from discounts, standardised tariffs in Germany and discounted fuel prices – all of which enable you to retain full cost control. For fuel and UTA Plus Services, you pay a surcharge on any purchases. When charging in Germany, the uniform UTA tariff applies. This allows you to charge with alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) at predictable costs. Please refer to our UTA eCharge tariff list for precise costs. 

What can the UTA charging card for electric vehicles be used for?

With the UTA eCard, you can not only supply your fleet with electricity and fuel, but also access UTA Plus Services. You can also use the card for toll settlement, vehicle washes, workshop services and more from our acceptance partners. We invoice these together with your fuelling and charging costs.

Which charging stations can I use with the card?

With the UTA eCard, you can charge your electric and hybrid vehicles via our Europe-wide network of over 750,000 public charging points in 28 countries. You can find stations on the road at any time via our mobile app.

Can I charge at work, at home or at the depot with the UTA charging card, or just at public charging stations?

UTA eCharge is a comprehensive solution that enables you to charge wherever you’re parked. This includes at work, at home or at the depot. By operating your own charging infrastructure, you’ll benefit from simplified fleet management and cost savings (electricity will be billed via your own contract and you won’t be dependent on public charging station prices) plus greater convenience for your drivers, employees and customers. As your mobility service partner, we’d be happy to help you set up charging infrastructure at your company premises: from planning and installation to operating your own charging stations. UTA eCharge supports home wallboxes for your drivers and employees, enabling them to charge vehicles at home.
