Slovakia: New ‘Czech Toll’ system from 1 January 2027
In Slovakia, a new electronic toll system will be introduced on 1 January 2027 by the operator NDS and SkyToll’s sister company, CzechToll. This will require new customer and vehicle registration, as well as the acquisition of a new OBU or the use of an EETS solution.

France: Shutdown of the 2G toll network and introduction of the R-Pass toll system in Alsace
The 2G toll network in France will be decommissioned on 31 December 2026. If you are currently using a 2G-compatible toll box, you should switch to a 4G-compatible device ahead of time to ensure your vehicles remain toll-compliant after the deadline.
From 1 January 2027, Alsace will introduce R-PASS, a new GNSS-based toll system for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. An extension to the Grand Est region is planned from April 2027. A 4G-compatible OBU will be required for both these systems.
If your fleet operates in this region, you should familiarise yourself with the new requirements.
Important: All existing UTA One next, UTA RoadPass Pro and UTA MultiBox units will be automatically activated for toll settlement in Alsace; no further action is required.
Croatia: New digital toll system from March 2027
From 1 March 2027, Croatia plans to replace its physical toll booths with a digital, barrier-free system. Tolls will then be recorded via number plate registration or a toll box and billed automatically.
Key facts about the new system include:
-
Fewer stops, greater efficiency
Croatia aims to reduce queues at toll stations and improve traffic flow. To this end, 212 toll portals equipped with 1,744 cameras will be installed. Tolls will be recorded automatically as vehicles pass through the motorway sections. -
How toll payment will work
Vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes can be registered online in advance and linked to a payment method. Unregistered vehicles will use fast-registration lanes where number plates are scanned and payment details are entered manually. -
A toll device is compulsory for trucks, buses and vehicles weighing over 3.5 tonnes. Devices must be installed in the vehicle to automatically calculate tolls.
Hungary: Technical changeover for HU 2.0
From September 2026, a changeover of the Hungarian toll context will begin on UTA One® next devices. During this period, the toll context might temporarily be displayed twice in the UTA Service Center. This is due to technical reasons and is no cause for concern.
It is important that your OBU is kept charged to ensure that necessary updates are received, and that the transition is successfully completed.
Netherlands: Temporary discount on truck tolls
From 1 September to 31 December 2026, a temporary 22.3% discount on truck tolls will apply in the Netherlands. The discount applies to all vehicles covered by the new toll system.
If your vehicles regularly travel through the Netherlands, it is worth factoring this change into your cost planning for the year.
Toll Collect: Two-factor authentication
In the future, two-factor authentication via the UTA Service Center will be required when booking journeys and changing the payment method to UTA Edenred via Toll Collect. This will make online bookings more secure and better protect your account against unauthorised access. You can learn more and get detailed instructions in the UTA Service Center under ‘Toll Service’.
Austria: Digital vignette from 2027
From 1 December 2026, digital vignettes will replace adhesive vignettes in Austria. Digital vignettes are linked to vehicle registration numbers and can be conveniently purchased at all sales outlets, toll stations and ticket machines, or online via the ASFINAG portal.
