A firsthand account of using an electric car for business

I'm sitting here, with a cup of coffee in my hand and a grin on my face, because my all-electric company car is making my daily work easier.

Scepticism and a bold first step

It started unspectacularly. My fleet manager handed over my new electric company car. Me? Sceptical. How far can I go in it? Where can I charge it? How long will that take?
Today I can say, it works…really well!

My first-day experience

The day started at the office – a quick chat with colleagues, coffee and best of all: while I was getting underway with work, my car was plugged into one of the 24 charging points in our corporate campus. The charging points weren’t set up haphazardly, but thoughtfully – with all the bells and whistles, including load management and Zaptec wall boxes integrated into a Spirii backend. Sounds technical? It is. Do I need to understand it? Nope. It works.

Hold up my UTA eCard, car charges - done. That day, I visited a client 150 km away and did a quick recharge along the way. Plug & Charge: just plug in the CCS connector, and the power flows. No card clutter, no apps, no worries.

On the day of my customer visit, I topped up easily while travelling 150 km away – Plug & Charge: pop in the CCS plug, and off you go. No faffing around with cards, no extra apps, no stress. All thanks to the UTA eCard.

And at home?

That works too! The day before yesterday, my home charging box was installed – an intuitive Zaptec unit again. My electrician was thrilled with how easy the installation was and with the quality of the box. Since then, I’ve been able to charge at home with my UTA eCard, too – everything billed neatly, everything taken care of.

What does my fleet manager say?

At first, she was even more sceptical than I was: “Electric mobility? Way too complicated.” Today, we affectionately call her “Chief of Charging Points.” With the UTA Spirii backend, she has everything under control: charging stations at work, at a colleague’s home, or on the go – even CO₂ reports, onboarding and utilisation.

Final thoughts

I was convinced that e-mobility was complicated. Now I know that if you start with the right partners, it can be more stress-free than driving a combustion engine vehicle.
The best part is, PV surplus charging is coming soon! By then, I’ll be driving to customer sites using solar power. Cool, or what?
Shout-out to everyone who’s still on the fence: Take the plunge! I’ve made the switch and am here to tell the tale. To the world of e-mobility with the UTA eCharge charging solution.

Yours, Andreas.
