UTA Edenred supports Dutch road users with three toll processing options for the country’s upcoming kilometre-based toll system

Kleinostheim – UTA Edenred, one of Europe’s leading mobility service providers and an Edenred Group company, is helping customers transition to the new kilometre-based toll system in the Netherlands with three tailor-made EETS toll processing solutions: UTA One® next, UTA RoadPass Pro and the national NedLinq OBU.

  • The longstanding Eurovignette system will be replaced by a kilometre-based toll system on 1 July
  • UTA Edenred offers customers three suitable EETS toll processing options: UTA One® next, UTA RoadPass Pro and the NedLinq OBU

The kilometre-based toll system debuts on 1 July, replacing the current Eurovignette system which will cease to be valid on 30 June. Known as ‘Vrachtwagenheffing’, the new toll applies to both Dutch and foreign trucks weighing over 3.5 tonnes that use most motorways and some provincial and local roads. Such vehicles must be fitted with an on-board unit (OBU) registered to settle the toll charges - regardless of whether the vehicle is driving on toll roads or not.

The new Dutch toll system has been designed to enable a fairer distribution of costs for the use of national roads. Toll revenue is earmarked for the expansion, maintenance and modernisation of the local road network. In doing so, the Netherlands is pursuing the goal of making road freight transport more climate-friendly and reducing long-term emissions in the transportation sector.

UTA Edenred offers three OBUs suitable for toll processing in the Netherlands:

• UTA One® next is a 4G-compatible OBU for distance-based toll payments. It covers 18 European countries and offers features such as fleet monitoring and remote configuration via the HUB4Trucks platform. It is UTA Edenred’s most comprehensive toll solution and one of the most powerful OBUs on the market.
• UTA RoadPass Pro is a flexible, 4G-compatible OBU designed for distance-based toll payments, particularly in Western and Central Europe. It encompasses 10 European countries plus numerous bridge and tunnel tolls.
• The NedLinq OBU is a Netherlands-only solution and therefore suitable for users with a regular driving profile in the country. However, it can also be used for spontaneous journeys to the Netherlands. Users can obtain an OBU by registering via NedLinq, with billing via the UTA Card..

UTA Edenred recommends that fleet managers order compatible OBUs and fit them to vehicles well ahead of the toll system launch. If orders are placed too late, timely delivery cannot be guaranteed. Existing UTA One® next customers can pre-activate the Dutch toll context in the UTA Service Center now to be ready by 1 July. Alternatively, both toll  devices can be ordered in the UTA Service Center. On 11 June, UTA Edenred will host an English-language webinar previewing the new Dutch toll system, for which interested parties can register here. Further information on the toll system and compatible OBUs can be found here.
